Undercover x Vans... Spring 2017
It's almost here: the long-awaited collab between Vans and Undercover... Vans need no introduction, but Jun Takahashi’s Undercover is near-impossible to pigeonhole, switching between creating elegant womenswear for the catwalks of Paris and t-shirts for sneakerheads; they've collaborated with streetwear (Supreme) and high-street (Uniqlo). But throughout it all, there is often a common thread – music.
No matter what the Undercover's founder, Jun Takahashi, does, music is a recurring source of inspiration. He’s splashed cover art on jackets to pay homage 70s rock band, Television, and released t-shirts in metal cans as a playful tribute to Can, an experimental German outfit. A love of punk music saw him launch the now-defunct AFFA line with Hiroshi Fujiwara, which took direct inspiration from Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm Mclaren’s punk-led Seditionaries line.
His collaboration with Vans (dropping 00:01 04/02) is true to form, incorporating the lyrics of English band Temples along the toe box of the OG Era LX sneaker. The pack also includes a tonal OG Old Skool in two colourways with an all over floral pattern (we asked asking Undercover what it all meant, there was a simple explanation: Nothing in particular. Jun just liked it..)
