New in... Rick Owens Pre AW16
As an entrée to the Mastodon AW16 offering, Rick Owens Pre AW16 collection is most notable for the inclusion of colour. The Californian’s signature black still makes up the majority of this seasonal offering; a textured mohair bomber jacket acts as a new perspective on a Rick Owens classic, and a mohair tunic sweater gives a touch of unbridled monochromatic luxury. In contrast, a simultaneously structured and undulating SL raglan dress provides a vibrant (if unexpected) pop of teal. That colour is replicated in this season’s asymmetric hike t-shirt, which is also available in wolf grey and, of course, black.
Elsewhere, the knitted square coat exhibits Owens’ eye for draping—a prominent feature of his AW16 Ready-to-Wear collection, where each garment was hand-draped by the designer himself.
The silhouettes for Pre AW16 remain true to what we’ve come to expect from Owens, but what arguably makes this one of his most intriguing collections to date is his willingness to disregard any preconceptions of his own work.
