New In... Our Legacy SS17
Masculinity is the key theme of this season’s Our Legacy collection. It’s menswear, so this might seem redundant, but for Spring Summer 2017, Jockum Hallim and Christopher Nying haven’t just rehashed tropes of the male wardrobe, they’ve reimagined them.
For example, take the 90s British lad culture aesthetic that courses through this collection. Aquascutum-like check shirts and sportswear smocks are present, offset by hues of bright—like, really bright—pink cotton terry tees that are soft, delicate, and fluffy.
This is not a full-throttle testosterone-laden masculinity. It is a collection that is both decidedly wearable and cheekily subversive in how it’s put together. It forces you to look beyond the laddish façade extending that extends into wearing fluorescent pink overshirts.
From Gosha Rubchinskiy’s take on what it means to be young and male in Russia to the recent release and critical acclaim of Moonlight, there is a current cultural reassessment of just how we define masculinity—or rather, perhaps why we shouldn’t. Our Legacy SS17 perfectly reflects that.
